The right tools make plant care easier (and a lot less messy). Here’s a quick guide to common succulent and cactus tools and what they’re best for.
Repotting mat
- Keeps soil contained and makes cleanup easy
- Great for indoor repotting or small spaces
Tweezers / tongs
- Helps handle spiky plants safely
- Useful for removing dried leaves or debris from tight rosettes
Pruning snips / scissors
- For clean cuts when removing dead growth or taking cuttings
- Use clean, sharp tools to avoid tearing stems
Scoop / small trowel
- Helps control soil placement when repotting small pots
- Less root disturbance compared to using hands in tight containers
Soft brush
- For gently removing soil from leaves or spines
- Useful after shipping or repotting
Gloves (cactus-friendly)
- Protect hands when handling spines and glochids
- Choose thicker gloves for larger cacti
Tool care tips
- Wipe tools after use.
- If cutting plants, disinfect blades between plants to reduce the risk of spreading pests or disease.
